Hard conversations suck. They just do. No one wants to have them, but sometimes they’re just necessary. I used to think bringing up hard conversations was a form of disrupting someone’s peace and that it wasn’t very loving of me.
Here at Project, one of our internal core values is “Speak with Respectful Candor,” and oh boy is it difficult. And while at times it’s still extremely challenging, it’s also shown me that love can be shown through difficult conversations. In fact, this core value has become so important that I’ve started using it with my family.
I never want someone to be unclear about how we can better our relationship. When I leave them without clarity I realize I’m not actually showing them love. Love is being willing to have hard conversations so that your relationship can deepen. And it is SO HARD! But honestly, after you get past it, it’s so rewarding.
