I am the textbook definition of an introvert. I love time alone to recharge. I can only take large crowds in doses, and yes, the anxiety is real.
Recently though, I have challenged myself to reach out and venture out into the uncomfortable land of connecting with people, by calling them. Conversations on the phone used to be something that made me really nervous but, lately, I have been enjoying talking to people on the phone.
Health experts say that phone calls with friends or family members can help us regulate our nervous systems. Conversations help create feelings of connection and belonging. The actual rhythm of the voice and words help us feel safe and create trust with people. It’s amazing what a human conversation can do for our health!
I encourage you today to try it. Fire up that phone function on your device and give a friend a ring!
