We all have our “offseason.” However, if you are like me, you have the tendency to want to plan ahead and get a head start on the actual season. I’ve struggled with this because of my competitive nature. My biggest fear is not being prepared causing my team to under perform. I get upset and then I enter the “what if” world.
I don’t know about your profession or where you are in life right now. But if you are in an environment that is competitive, it is important to rest when the time allows for it. Competition can burn you out, especially when you have people pressuring you to perform. You might feel like you cannot rest or take a break. But the reality is you need a break to recharge your batteries. I say this as a coach: you will find true success when you are at your best when your best is needed.
I have been taking time to do other things and disconnecting from soccer, such as going up into the mountains, going on bike rides, and doing things with my family. Over the past couple of weeks I have felt good about life in general. Sure the season will approach faster than I expect. However, I will be ready for any challenges with renewed energy!
