We just added “Oxygen” by Zauntee to Project 88.7!
“Oxygen” is all about how we can’t live without Jesus. The lyrics remind me of a few songs and prayers written by two biblical writers. In Psalm 51, David ran to God asking for forgiveness for a serious sin He had committed, and prayed that God would restore joy to him in knowing God and refresh him with His presence. In Psalm 63, David was hiding from people who were trying to take his life, and although God was with Him, David was separated from experiencing God’s presence in the public place of worship with other people in the way He was used to. He longed to reconnect with God’s presence in that way again. In the Psalm 73, the psalmist Asaph was struggling in his faith and frustrated with God that people who don’t obey God seemed to be succeeding at life while godly people suffered.
For both David and Asaph, when they ran back to God, they remembered His presence is everything. Knowing God is everything. His love and friendship are everything. Having a relationship with God satisfies us more than anything else. We find strength and purpose in knowing God that nothing else can give us in the same way. Maybe you know what it’s like to feel that realization hit you again after you’ve strayed from God or your heart has gone cold towards Him. Maybe you’re like me and just get caught up sometimes being busy with the mundane things of life and forget to give God your full attention. Or, maybe you need to be reminded today that you can run back to God. He’s always pursuing us. And in the moments we respond to His pursuit and draw near to Him, He draws near to us. Then we discover the same thing Zauntee has: God is our oxygen.
“O God, you are my God; I earnestly search for you. My soul thirsts for you; my whole body longs for you
in this parched and weary land where there is no water. I have seen you in your sanctuary and gazed upon your power and glory. Your unfailing love is better than life itself; how I praise you!” (Psalm 63:1-3 NLT)
Lyrics
[Chorus]
Holy are you God, most high
You’re my oxygen, can’t live without you
And I apologize for all the times I doubt you
‘Cause you’ve been waiting all this time
To give me purpose and bring me life
So given my, oxygen I’m all about you
I breath you in
You’re my oxygen, I can’t live without you (yeah)
And I apologize for all the times I doubt you
‘Cause you’ve been waiting all this time
To give me purpose and bring me life
So given my, oxygen I’m all about you
I breath you in, you’re my oxygen
Aye, aye, I breath you in, you’re my oxygеn
Aye, aye, I breath you in, yеah, yeah
[Verse 1]
It’s been a while since we’ve talked
And I mean since we’ve really talked
I’ve been livin’ life safe
It’s been causing this distance from you
But now I know it’s my fault
You said you’d draw near to me
If I’d draw near to you
And seek the kingdom first to find a clearer view
I need less of me, and me more of you
I was lookin’ for the light you never left my side
[Chorus]
You’re my oxygen, I can’t live without you (yeah)
And I apologize for all the times I doubt you
‘Cause you’ve been waiting all this time
To give me purpose and bring me life
So given my, oxygen I’m all about you
I breath you in, you’re my oxygen
[Verse 2]
I wanna breath you in
I need you here with me
I wanna see your face
You’re everything I need
Already went my way
But now I’m on my knees
I’m only still alive because you carried me
And you brought me through the valley
And you kept me through the storm
You got resurrection power
And the answer for my soul
And you’ve been callin’ my name, callin’ my name
Callin’ my name since the day I was born
You’ve been callin’ my name, callin’ my name
Callin’ my name, you’ve been callin’ me home
So near to me, I’m drawin’ near to you
I’ll seek the kingdom first
To find a clearer view
I need less of me, and me more of you
Already looked to the light and you were by my side
[Outro]
Oxygen, I can’t live without you (yeah)
And I apologize for all the times I doubt you (yeah)
‘Cause you’ve been waiting all this time
To give me purpose and bring me life
So given my, oxygen I’m all about you
I breath you in, you’re my oxygen
You’re my oxygen, you’re my oxygen
Breath you in, you’re my oxygen
You’re my oxygen, I can’t live without you
You’re my oxygen, I can’t live without you
