We just added “Giving In” by Cecily to Project 88.7!
In “Giving In,” Cecily creatively uses the imagery of dancing with a partner to the rhythms of trusting Jesus and walking in step with Him. A life spent walking with Jesus is a life spent growing a friendship with Him. It’s getting to know Him. It’s letting Him open up our hearts so He can show us that He truly loves us and we can truly start believing it. It’s learning to fully depend on Him because He really can be trusted. It’s letting Him heal the broken places in our hearts and lives and set us free from the things that hold us back from the life He desires for us in Him.
It’s building a history with Him–stories and testimonies and experiences of Him working in our lives and our relationship growing. Times He made Himself known to you or taught you something. Times He changed our lives. Times He met a need or desire in your life or answered a prayer in a tangible way. Times you’ve struggled through a trial or struggled in your faith, feeling fragile and maybe even upset with Him, and He faithfully stuck by you and gently carried you through to the other side.
“Giving In” reminds us that you and I were made to walk with Jesus as a friend. That’s what He created us for and that’s part of why He makes a way for us to be saved from our sins that separate us from having a relationship with Him. Lean into friendship with Jesus today. And, if you do, I think you’ll agree with what Cecily sings in this song: “Leaning on Your love is the best thing I have done. It’s all I’ve ever wanted. It’s better than life.”
“I have seen you in your sanctuary and gazed upon your power and glory. Your unfailing love is better than life itself; how I praise you!” (Psalm 63:2-3)
