“Comparison is the Thief of Joy.” – Teddy Roosevelt
Perhaps this is the first time you are reading this quote. Maybe it is one of your favorite ones and you see it all the time on those motivational posts that we follow on IG. Well, I keep this quote near and dear to me, because I can say that there are many days that I’m scrolling on social and I fall victim to comparison. Whether it is someone’s fitness progress pics, or the awesome recipe that a food-fluencer creates- it can be second nature to immediately say, “I am a total failure”.
One day I realized how much I was letting what I was seeing in people’s IG stories rule my mind and feelings. It brought up the frustrations I had with myself and even with God. But then I remembered that quote. It was true, I was allowing comparison with myself and others to dictate and navigate my feelings.
Here’s the thing, when it comes to who YOU are and how God created YOU – there is no room for comparison. YOU are the original and only YOU! There’s no copycats of you out there. You are the O.G.! Even in the Minon movies, when you see a sea of tiny yellow people squeaking around, each Minion has a unique thing about them. (My personal favorite is Phil 😊 )
Just know how unique you are, flaws and all, own that! This is what makes our creator, our God so amazing and special. His care extends into the details of our making. You are the #1 original you.
