We just added “God Had Other Plans” by Zauntee to Project 88.7!
When I heard this song it instantly reminded me of a story I read in the Bible recently in Isaiah 7. Two kings from different kingdoms allied together against a king named Ahaz, and those two kings planned to attack and destroy Ahaz and God’s people.
News came to King Ahaz about what their plans were and his heart and the hearts of his people were even fearful when they heard the report. But then God sent someone to Ahaz with a message from Him saying the invasion his enemies had planned would never happen and God even shared some plans He had for His people in the future. It looked like their situation was going to turn out one way, but God had another plan for His people, and He even sent a message to encourage them by letting them know that.
Here’s something I struggle with when I get overwhelmed: I get negative in my thinking and start telling myself, “things will always be this way; it’s never going to get better no matter what.” But time and time again when I’ve been in that discouraged place, God has intervened to encourage me and to bring hope out of the broken situation I was in, just like Zauntee talks about how God has done the same in his life in this song.
You may think whatever your situation you’re in is over and there’s no way things can change for the better. But ask God what He is saying and what He wants to do in that situation, and pray and believe for Him to work out His plans for your life. God’s plans for us aren’t always easy and they don’t always happen in the timing and way we expect, but God’s plans for us are always for our good.
“Let all that I am praise the Lord; may I never forget the good things he does for me…He redeems me from death and crowns me with love and tender mercies. He fills my life with good things. My youth is renewed like the eagle’s!” (Psalm 103:2-5 NLT)
Lyrics
I thought it was over, God Had Other Plans
I thought it was over, God Had Other Plans
I thought it was over, God Had Other Plans
I took my life laid it down placed it in His hands
I remember waking up and I ain’t wanna get out of bed
Didn’t know how to get from A to B with visions in my head
I remember being discouraged by what certain people said
They won’t help you with the recipe but they still want the bread
Had some family in my hometown never came to shows
Had some homies who weren’t for me and I had to let em go
I fought depression I was struggling when my bank account was low
It broke my heart to hear my sister ask for something and tell her no
Then the Most High on the main line said I’m His
And He wouldn’t leave me out to dry He blessed me with these gifts
He reminded me how far I’ve come and all that I’ve been thru
He said the more you sacrifice to me the more I’ll give to you
And so I built my God an altar and with every single song
I would give the people anthems in my weakness He was strong
I said Lord I give you all of me I lay it in your hands
I thought it was over, God Had Other Plans
