“Stressed But Blessed.”
It’s a popular response to the generic “how are you doing” question that will probably make the asker crack a smile. For most of us right now, that answer probably fits quite snugly.
We feel the pressure of the season, but also the spirit of the holiday, and we’re doing what we can to show up and feel grateful.
Thankful.
Blessed.
But do we even realize what blessings we have in our life? If you were to sit down and make a list right now, at what point would that list go from every day to actual Kingdom blessings? You have gas in the car—an everyday blessing. You have breath in your lungs. Kingdom blessing. Friends that care. Everyday. A Father who sent His only Son for you. Kingdom. Clothes on your back. Everyday. Clothed in protection. Kingdom.
When I’m focusing my blessings on situations and others–both of which live comfortably in the “can change on a dime” file–then stress can be a really friendly neighbor. When I switch the focus of my blessings to Kingdom gifts that will never change, no matter what, stressed quickly becomes an unwelcome houseguest, and is more easily shown the backdoor.
Don’t settle for “Stressed But Blessed” this Christmas season. You deserve better, and when you change your focus, you’ll find there’s no more room for stress in the inn.
