Disney’s High School Musical was a movie a head of its time. No, I’m not talking about it’s amazing soundtrack (Grammy’s – you missed an opportunity here!), nor was it the stellar acting (yeah, you messed up Oscars!). It was the messages we didn’t appreciate then, but were designed for 2020!!
I give you two simple cases to prove my point.
First, let’s look at the end. The beautiful duet by Troy and Gabriella, Breaking Free.
You know the world can see us
In a way that’s different than who we are
Creating space between us
‘Till we’re separate hearts
But your faith it gives me strength
Strength to believe
We’re breakin’ free
We’re soarin’
The first two lines here are OBVIOUSLY talking about how we all front on social media!! (See, I told you, this movie was ahead of its time!)
“Creating space between us….” See? Social distancing!!!
Man, this is uncanny how dead on this song is!
“We’re breakin’ free, We’re soarin'” THIS IS OUR LIFE!!! Get us out of here!!!
Then of course, we have to look at that epic jam, “We’re All In This Together!”
I don’t need to quote the lyrics, just saying that title is probably starting to make you sing and want to dance. (Go ahead, dance a second… Sing… We’re all a bit crazy already with social distancing, so no one will care!!!)
Disney gave the playbook to every commercial on TV right now… “We’re all in this together!” This is THE CLICHE of 2020. They will make t-shirts mocking this! We are all in this together!!!
I rest my case. Disney was ready for Corona years before it hit the rest of us!
