After a few decades of family gatherings for Thanksgiving, I think it’s well understood with our extended families that we don’t cook. Like, at all.
I mean, this past week I brought a bag of Doritos and some goldfish crackers to our youth group’s Thanksgiving potluck. That was all I could muster in the three minutes I had to prep and plan.
Next week, our family will have to map out our schedule in order to fit a trip to the grocery store (*gag*) to pick up a can of olives for my family’s gathering. A can of olives. I’m not joking. That’s what was requested of us to bring. To Thanksgiving dinner.
I don’t even LIKE olives.
But hey, if it brings worth, value, and contribution to the incredible spread that is costing everyone else DAYS and hundreds of dollars to plan, then I shall oblige.
What are you bringing to your meal this year? I’m guessing you’ll one-up me. Reply, let me know, and have a wonderful Happy Thanksgiving! When you get to the olives, shoot me up a prayer. I might need it.
I don’t like olives either. My wife is making green bean casserole.
hi kevin, you made me laugh so much. i love olives i’ll eat them for you but i only eat black olives
Olives are a favorite with our family. They get opened last or everyone eats them before food is ready. The kids love putting them on their fingers & then eating them!
I love olives!
You better bring more than one can for the many olive lovers!
OMG – you’re cracking me up!
Even if you don’t cook, the grocery stores do have bakeries and prepared food counters. You could even disguise a pre-made side dish or dessert in your own dish 🙂
I host the family of over 30 people at my house so yes I will be cooking for days and everyone will bring something. And my sister usually brings canned olives 🙂 along with pickles and crackers and cheese for snacking throughout the day. Every contribution is appreciated. But consider surprising them by bringing something more than just the olives. (hint – even store-bought pumpkin roll is pretty good) 🙂
