This week, I was reminded of my first internship in college. I was working towards a degree in Broadcast Technology at Boise State University, pursuing a dream to be in radio. I got a gig at a local classic rock station and after a few months of showing up, I was getting irritated at getting assigned stupid tasks like getting everyone coffee, taking out the trash, and dusting the studio.
I wasn’t being invested in. I knew it, and while I’m sure they knew it, they didn’t care.
I took that with me, vowing that I would invest in my work environment and those around me for the rest of my life.
You can do that too! You don’t have to be a boss or a supervisor. Just a friend willing to ensure that whoever around you on a regular basis leaves your circle knowing they are valued, seen, and invested in.
Wouldn’t that be great? To have people who encounter you be better off than when they first entered it? Not because you’re awesome, or because you’re a great friend or a leader, but because you believe in INVESTING in, ENCOURAGING in, and IGNITING amazing things in others.
Invest in people around you. It’s always worth your time.
What are some ways you invest in those around you? Leave me a comment below. –Kevin
