God has many names, but “DJ” isn’t on the list.
We put this title directly on Him as we quip of Him lining up “the perfect song at the perfect time,” or we sit by our speaker waiting for the next “breathe from heaven” to randomly shuffle through our earpods.
I seriously doubt God is taking a break from larger and more pressing issues to interrupt your playlist.
What is more realistic is that you are simply listening. And in that moment, God speaks.
This happened to me just this past week. I commanded my HomePod to “play worship music” and then prayed that God would deliver a message to me in song. Low and behold, Jon Reddick’s “God, Turn It Around” came on and I balled as I allowed the perfect lyrics to flow freely into my quiet space and cover, heal and convict.
God and I had a moment. But it happened because I prepared my heart and soul for worship (and not the latest Swift single), stopped what I was doing for a few minutes, and then waited in expectation. God used that song, and my posture, to drill deep and meet me right where I was. I’m thankful.
That’s the power of music! But did God hear my prayer and lean over to a few angels with a wise twinkle in His eye and say, “Hey, watch this next mic drop!”
Well, maybe? Who am I to say how God does, and doesn’t, work? More than likely, it was because I was ready to receive. And God is always ready to give.
