2020. We’ve got coronavirus. We’ve got social distancing. And as of yesterday, we have earthquakes!
As an old married guy, I don’t know how this is impacting dating. But I know people still want to find love. And I know there’s always that one guy who just tries to hard…. That Trying Too Hard (TTH) guy is now stuck on online dating.
I can just see the conversation on Tinder last night. He’s just started talking to some girl. The earthquake hits….
TTH Guy: Hey Tiffany. This may seem fast cause we just started talking… But, I think there’s something special here. We started talking and I asked for a sign if you were the right girl… And the earth shook. It literally shook. This is fate.
Tiffany: <leaves conversation for good>
Sorry TTH Guy…. You’re coming on too strong here.
I feel like that’s a lot of Christian people right now. It’s like people are trying to make sense out of this. Either it’s a message from God, it’s a direct sign of the end times, it’s a call to repent, or it’s because of some particular personal pet agenda item that God MUST be passionate about too, or maybe we just want some type of solution and that this is all a part of something that is all going to wrap up pretty in the end.
Maybe what we’re really trying to do is make sense of this so we can understand it and feel like we are in control.
But control is not what Jesus is about. When He was here, he destroyed everyone’s desire to be in control. He said HE was God and that was that.
The Bible says that faith is the evidence of what we can’t see. Maybe the big picture of this is that this is what happens in a world that is broken. And maybe we just are getting our mid-terms on actually living on faith and not having to be in control. Maybe things don’t always fit into a little box. And its okay because we know the guy who IS in control.
