Mother’s Day is coming up. I actually almost forgot but luckily I had about 35 spam emails reminding me. This weekend is a special one for moms. Not because of the flowers, spa days, or however you celebrate, but instead because we have a chance to share with Mom just how much we love and appreciate her.
So, if you are stuck on a gift idea, I’d like to share a suggestion for mom, from a mom.
When I became a mom, the best part about it was the fact that I could have these sweet moments with my kids. Whether they were 7 months spitting out their food at me, or catching the first giggle and laughter, or maybe even that time in Kindergarten when they gave me a handmade Mother’s Day card with their thmbprints made into flowers. All of these things were gifts–but not of the “extravagant” kind. They were gifts of time, gifts of presence–moments to be captured as precious core memories.
This is the best kind of gift you can give mom. Give her time. Give her time to herself if she would like, and also give her YOUR time with her. Be present and real, with no distractions. Enjoy her. Laugh, cry, converse, hug! (Don’t get me wrong though. brunch and flowers are also great “icing on the cake.”)
