Social Media is a liar. This isn’t news to you though, but let me reiterate why it’s a liar. My TikTok is FULL of people who are living their best, well-taken-care-of, lives. They eat three solid meals a day, exercise a consistent amount, have a healthy work-life balance, etc. You get the point. They have their life together, and honestly, that’s so good for them and I’m cheering them on.
Here’s the kicker though… they make it look EASY.
It’s like “Adulting 101” is having this lifestyle, and while it would be so amazing if everyone could achieve this, NO ONE is talking about how much of a CHORE it is to achieve this level of self-care.
As a mother and wife, I constantly find myself in the mindset of “failure” and “comparison” and the never-ending reminder that I’m also just not even LIVING properly can be overwhelming. When it comes to taking care of my 2-year-old, being a good wife, and showing up strong to work, I’ve often not had the “Me” space. I think it’s safe to say, everyone understands that self-care is important, but not enough people are talking about how HARD it is to create that space for yourself.
I guess, in the end, that’s all I want–more people talking about how difficult self-care actually is.
And let me just say this–maybe, the most self-caring thing you can do is not even worry about self-care. So take that chore off your to-do list and just do you, Boo-Boo.
