For anyone that has known me for a while, they will know how much I love food. Maybe it’s the places I’ve lived (Hawaii, Seattle) that have shaped this passion, but I definitely know God made me hungry for a reason. Yes, I love enjoying a good meal but an extension of why I love a nice dish or plate of yum is that it’s a chance for me to share it with others.
We have a rule in our house that no matter what we have “going on” (homework, a video game you just CAN’T PAUSE) that sharing a meal is a non-negotiable. We gather for dinner, we share our day. We share tears, we share laughter, we share plates. We connect. We fill our bodies with good food that nourish and sustain. The same goes for when I call a friend and say ‘let’s grab something to eat’. We decide where we are meeting, get a table, and chop it up.
When you think about it, Jesus did the same. He often invited his friends (and strangers!) to the table to eat with him, and talk with him.
Perhaps Jesus was a foodie too!
The bottom line is that I believe that we were made to share a meal. It’s an event that shows us that God created us to gather and grow together. So, bring your best plate and I’ll see you at the potluck!
