“Don’t forget to read the fine print.”
The above is EXCELLENT advice. Seriously. Life is constantly throwing things at us to read and sign but most of us don’t read. We are in a hurry to get done so we hurry up and sign whatever someone puts in front of us. It’s what they expect.
Wanna make someone mad? Insist on reading through whatever someone hands you BEFORE you sign it. They’ll pretend like it’s fine but I promise you they won’t like it. (Trust me. I do it.)
This week I did NOT read the fine print and it got me.
Did you know there’s a new Zelda game coming out? Friday, May 12. It’s been six years since the last game came out. (Side note: also the same day as the release of Lauren Daigle’s new album. It’s been five years for her.) Am I excited? HUGELY. The big problem is that I don’t own a Nintendo Switch anymore so I can’t play the new game. Sure, I could be one of THOSE people who tries to pirate the game and run it through some emulator, but no. I’m not starting my quest to vanquish evil from Hyrule by committing a crime! Come on!
I fixed my lack-of-Switch problem this week by buying a new “Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Edition Nintendo Switch.” It showed up last night. I could open it right away. I wanted to savor the moment and the box is beautiful! (I’ve got a weird thing for loving retail packaging.) I wanted to see all the art and that’s when I saw “it”. What “it”?
The fine print.
On the front of the box, in little letters, it says: game not included. Game not included!?!?!?!?! I feel betrayed! The box is covered in Zelda stuff. The Switch is covered in Zelda stuff. How can the game not be included!?!?
Shoulda read the fine print, sucker.
What does this have to do with anything?
With God, there is no fine print. When you start up with Jesus, He says He will never leave you or forsake you. There is no asterisk. There are no clauses. There is only God’s love for you.
Look into who Jesus is, the life He lived, the death He died, and His resurrection. Whatever pre-existing fine print there was, He dealt with all of it for you. Now, you and I are free to accept Him, His love, and the life He offers. He will not leave us, forsake us, or run away on some technicality.
I’m in.
