Have you ever put in a request with your spouse, with the UTMOST confidence in them? That happened to Jordan and I last week. After an emotionally draining day, coming off being super sick, I wanted snacks, and my husband is the snack master….or so I thought.
Jordan and I have been married for 3 years (4 in June) and been together for almost 10. He KNOWS me, better than I know myself, and so after an emotionally grueling day, when my hero arrived with arms full of snacks, I was hopeful for the first time that day. As I hurriedly opened each bag with deep excitement, I came across pints of delicious ice cream, drinks, and….a bottle of big, green, garlic-stuffed olives.
Now listen, I don’t mind those tiny pimento olives, but these things were on a whole new level that I was not expecting. Like these things were massive, if I were to see one walking down a dark alley, I’d turn and head in the opposite direction, absolutely intimidating. The sight mixed with that silly amount of disappointment put me into a laughing fit as I’d never experienced.
Listening to my husband also laugh at the absurdity of the purchase, and even hearing our 2-year-old join in the laughter so he wouldn’t miss out on the party, put my heart at ease for the first time that day. God can show up in the weirdest moments to bring peace to an aching heart and he can use a blessed “Olive Buyer” who unbeknownst to him, would buy me a core memory, through to those big, green, garlic-stuffed olives.
